Port Stephens Coastal Cruise

4 - 10 February 2018

The excitement in our household was much the same as to Santa coming. Kevin was up and down to the boat hundreds of times a day preparing for the big event. Even though his knees were killing him (both knees replaced just 12 weeks ago). Saturday morning 7am he took off with his mate Ken to meet the rest of the boats at Box Head.

The seas were messy but no holding him back, I'm not sure how long he was at the helm, but I have been told most of the trip he was more interested in being out the back trying to burley up some fish (no fishing line needed!). I drove up and found Kevin at the wharf and noticed his unusual green colour.

We had a fantastic week, so much thanks to Greg Rowe ("White Knight") and Bruce Callaghan ("The Main Game") for organising the trip. The Anchorage Marina lived up to all expectations.

The week was food, wine, and new friends. It sure is a great way to get to know fellow club members. Day trips, out to islands and seeing dolphins. One boat may have to have a name change to “Drifter” no names mentioned.

Port Stephens is a fantastic fishing spot we were told. So as there was 7 of us on the last night together, we needed 7 fish. Wow, how easy to get 7 nice snapper, until the maritime arrived to say we were fishing in a reserve. No wonder the fish were so hungry, they don’t get fed too often.

But as they say what happens on an away trip stays on the trip!!
