Cure Cancer 2022
1 May 2022
WOW, what a great day! After being postponed due to rain in March and following on from our soggy 2021 event, we were greeted with absolutely perfect boating conditions, virtually no wind, and clear blue sunny skies (yes you did read that correctly, “sunny”).
13 boats and 60 plus members and guests gathered and rafted up at the bottom of America Bay for a magnificent afternoon celebrating our fundraising for Cure Cancer. Once settled, the cheese and crackers and a few drinks were enjoyed whilst the BBQ’s cooked up a feast of delicious sausages very kindly donated by Exclusive Meats, North Turramurra.
Whist most of us were enjoying our sausages, the crew of “Half Full” (winners in the Celebrity Chef draw) had their personal celebrity chef, Adam Moore prepare an amazing BBQ gourmet meal including: Coffee glazed beef short ribs; Warm Balsamic Brussel sprouts; Sweet potato and lentil salad; Tomato and basil salad; Simple green salad; Assorted cheese platter to finish and a couple of bottles of red wine.
Following Commodore Grant’s welcome, Nikki Kinloch from Cure Cancer introduced our BHCC researcher Dr Shafiq Syed who gave a speech on his research and the importance of the funding that the BHCC have been able to provide and what this will allow him to achieve. A very inspiring talk.
Before long we were into the auctions and raffle draws with many many prizes being distributed amongst members. Due to the lovely conditions and sunshine most boats stayed on until late in the afternoon before departing for the marina with 5 boats staying out to enjoy Sunday night on the water.
A very big thank you to all our BHCC members, friends, Twin Bridges, CureCancer and our amazing sponsors for making our BarbeCure such a success. On behalf of all our members, a massive thank you to Ngaire Callagan again for your tireless work to bring it all together.
